The Fertile Mind Bookshop is in it's 27th year in Belfast and the current owners are the 4th owners. We are both retired teachers, so the thought of owning a bookstore seemed like a logical progression even though we both had 2nd careers after teaching.

We are now in our 12th year of enjoying The Fertile Mind, its many loyal friends, and unlimited reading material of all types .

Since acquiring The Fertile Mind,we have made many changes,but the most significant, in our opinion, is our support of local authors and poets (our first signing was the then poet laureate of Maine, Kate Barnes). We host many signings, poetry readings, book discussions,and other special events. Our Authors include everything from a local 11 yr. old who wrote and illustrated her book, to nationally known authors and New York Times best sellers. We also report our sales to the New York Times for inclusion on their best seller list. Our most recent events were to hold a concert (piano,trumpet, and sax), and to add a pet hedgehog who loves books.
